Childhood obesity: 30% of boys and 40% of girls at risk for type 2 diabetes

"In 2000, it was estimated that 30 percent of boys and 40 percent of girls born in the United States are at risk for being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at some point in their lives" according to a report on Childhood Obesity from the Institute of Medicine published September 30, 2004.
“In case reports limited to the 1990s, type 2 diabetes accounted for 8 to 45 percent of all new pediatric cases of diabetes—in contrast with fewer than 4 percent before the 1990s.”
