“Stearic acid reduces weight gain,” says Alice S. Bennett, Ph.D., a retired researcher from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. “Mice fed a high-stearic acid diet weighed 13 to 38 percent less than those fed other diets which are more typical of the kinds that humans eat,” according to Bennett. A decrease in stearic acid intake, and increase in linolenic acid in the past few decades may help to partially explain our recent weight gain Dr. Bennett notes. “Stearic acid also delays the appearance of breast cancer in cancer-prone mice,” Bennett noted.
