“In adults, the short-term lethal dose for caffeine is estimated at [5,000 to 10,000 mg per day] (either intravenously or orally), which is equivalent to 75 cups of coffee, 125 cups of tea or 200 cola beverages,” a recent paper notes. Note: A Starbucks Venti (their largest size) brewed coffee contains 415 mg of caffeine. Therefore, as little as 12 Venti’s would reach a potentially lethal dose of 5,000 mg per day.
