The diabetes drug Byetta (exenatide), which is given twice a day by subcutaneous injection—under the skin—causes a 4-5 pound weight loss after five months, and a weight loss of about 11 pounds after two years according to an email I received from weight loss specialist Alan N. Schulman, MD of Rockville, Maryland. However, he said that an endocrinologist—hormone specialist—told him that he is routinely seeing weight loss of 10-20 pounds with the drug in his patients who in addition get “standard endocrinology practice medications”, for diabetes, I assume, and “dietician counseling” for diabetes, I assume. Dr. Schulman’s website can be found here.
