Breast-feeding reduces the risk of childhood obesity by 22 percent according to a meta-analysis of nine studies that included more than 69,000 people. Four studies also reported a dose-dependent effect of breast-feeding duration on the prevalence of obesity, that is, the longer a child is breast-fed, the less likely it is that they will become obese.
