A WAIST MEASUREMENT is the best predictor of type II diabetes among Mexican-Americans. It is at least as good as that of waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) and body mass index (BMI) combined.
Type II diabetes was 11 times more likely in those in the top quarter of waist measurement compared with the bottom quarter.
This study followed 721 Mexican Americans aged 25 to 64 for an average of 7.2 years.
