DIET PLUS EXERCISE DOES NOT ENHANCE weight loss in women over dieting alone according to a 3-month study of thirty-one overweight women with an average age of 35 years.
The women were assigned to one of four groups:
?????1) control,
?????2) diet-only,
?????3) diet plus aerobic exercise,
?????4) diet plus aerobic exercise plus strength training.
Weight loss and fat loss was similar in the three diet groups.
Changes in LDL and HDL cholesterol was also similar in all groups.
The exercise groups did show increases in endurance and strength. Exercise seems to be more important for maintaining weight than losing it.
A bariatrician once told me the importance of exercise for weight maintenance saying “I have never had a patient maintain weight loss without exercise.”
