COMBINING HIGH FAT FOODS AND ALCOHOL may lead to overeating more than either one alone.
Men consumed 194 calories more at lunch after eating a high fat appetizer and drinking white wine than after a high carbohydrate appetizer and vegetable juice according to a recent study. The additional calories eaten at lunch did not reduce calorie intake at dinner.
The high fat appetizer and white wine contained 55% fat, 11% carbohydrate, 11% protein, and 23% alcohol. Whereas the high carbohydrate appetizer and vegetable juice contained 25% fat, 55% carbohydrate, 20% protein, 0% alcohol. It would be interesting to see this study repeated with the protein content also held constant.
